John Tyson is a Managing Director of Meridian Hill Advisors, LLC, a boutique investment banking and advisory firm located in the District of Columbia. At Meridian, Mr. Tyson focuses on structuring and underwriting public private real estate development partnerships.
Previously, Mr. Tyson served as the President and General Counsel of The Kerry S. Pearson LLC (KSP), a District based holding company. At KSP, Mr. Tyson was responsible for assisting in managing the day to day implementation of KSP’s strategic vision, including identifying, securing and negotiating business ventures including having identified and developed business projects both domestic and international. While at KSP, Mr. Tyson also performed acquisition related activities including managing due diligence and structuring equity participation.
Mr. Tyson has also consulted to various quasi–public and private entities including, consulting to a quasi-public entity with $1 billion real estate portfolio regarding repurposing its’ financial affiliates to bring long term growth value. Mr. Tyson was also involved in the structuring and negotiating of joint venture agreements and strategic financial and legislative advice for clients in areas including private equity, tax abatement and Enterprise Zone facility bonds.
Before joining KSP, Mr. Tyson assisted in managing and coordinating fundraising efforts in the Mid-Atlantic region for Gore 2000 and DC Councilman Kevin Chavous’ mayoral campaign. Originally from Washington DC, Mr. Tyson holds a J.D. from the University of Maryland Law School and a B.A. from Hampton University. He is a member of the Maryland Bar Association, Leadership Washington and the DC Chamber of Commerce Government Relations Committee.
